2024 Training Workshop: Emerging Materials for Contemporary Challenges

 

The discovery of new materials is key to overcoming many of the technological challenges we face today, from energy efficiency to advanced computing. As we push the boundaries of what’s possible, innovative materials provide the foundation for breakthroughs in areas like renewable energy, high-performance electronics, and quantum computing. In this workshop, we will guide participants through the latest advancements in material discovery, showcasing how cutting-edge research is paving the way for the technologies of tomorrow.

The 2024 Training Workshop: Emerging Materials for Contemporary Challenges will be held at the NC State University on October 21-22, 2024. 

Join us for “Emerging Materials for Contemporary Challenges,” an immersive workshop designed for students and early-career scientists eager to explore cutting-edge opportunities in material science and emerging electronic technologies. This two-day workshop will delve into transformative areas such as energy materials, light emitting diodes, quantum computers, quantum materials, machine learning, and brain-inspired computation. Participants will benefit from insightful lectures by experts in these fields and engage in hands-on lab visits, offering a unique opportunity to connect with pioneering research and innovation in these dynamic areas.

 

Participants: 

Undergraduate students, graduate students, and other early-career scientists interested in learning about experimental material science research. The program and content will also be suitable for students wishing to obtain deeper insights into current experimental materials and research techniques.

Below are the available activities:

 

  • ORaCEL Lab Facilities VisitGet an inside look at our state-of-the-art laboratories, where you’ll see cutting-edge equipment and ongoing research in material science and emerging electronic technologies. You will visit the following labs:
      1. OPV fabrication facility
      2. Photolithography station
      3. WAXS machine
      4. Automation facility
      5. Spectroscopy and laser cooling
  • OLED Fabrication Demos (limited to 10 participants per session): Participate in a hands-on experience fabricating Organic Light Emitting Diodes (OLEDs) and learn about their applications in advanced display and lighting technologies.
  • THz Spectroscopy Demos (limited to 10 participants per session): Observe live demonstrations of terahertz (THz) spectroscopy techniques and discover their applications in material characterization and electronic systems.

The workshop lectures will be held at Duke Energy Hall (Hunt Library) at NC State University. The address is 1070 Partners Way, Raleigh, NC 27606. For those arriving out of campus, there is public parking at NC State University.

 

Parking: 

There are public parking places on the Centennial campus. Both Poulton Deck (3 min) and Partners Way Deck (10 min) are within walking distance.
